A group of local residents took part in a cycle ride on the 13th February 2010 in memory of friends who died last year whilst raising money for the British Lung Foundation.
Karen Puddifoot and Tim Roney passed away on 24th September 2009 in Ha Long Bay, Vietnam when travelling around the world heritage site on a tourist boat which capsized when it was caught in a sudden storm.
When asked about the ride he said “Some people think we are mad for doing a ride in the middle of February but the 15th would have been Karen’s birthday so this is the reason for it, both to remember her and also raise money for a worthwhile cause.”
Tim was a keen adventurer who had travelled all over the world.
Both will be missed by their families and friends.
Louise Skinner, Events Manager said “We have been overwhelmed by the level of support given by the whole community in memory of Tim, Karen and Chris in aid of the British Lung Foundation. The bikeathon we’re sure will be a fantastic event and we are very proud to be associated with it. All funds raised will go directly towards helping people affected by lung disease and their families.”
